Tales of the DeCongested

18 July 2008

Short-story writers and enthusiasts Paul Blaney and Rebecca Lattin-Rawstrone set up Tales of the Decongested to raise the profile of the short story in London and to encourage and showcase new talent.

Their regular meetings, held on the last Friday of each month at Foyles, Charing Cross Road, London, give writers the opportunity to read from their work.

They published Tales of the DeCongested Volume 1 in June 2006 under their own imprint, Apis Books, which specialises in short fiction.

About Short Fuse

Short Fuse is a monthly literary club and Brighton's only night promoting the short story and local and national writing talent.

Writers Tara Gould and Polly Tuckett set up Short Fuse with the intention of providing a space for writers of short stories to read their work to an audience, whether published or not. By extension, they hope to create a community of writers and readers, or listeners, making the pleasure of each a less solitary pursuit.

Each month, four writers read a story chosen from received submissions, and selection is based purely on the quality of the writing.

Short Fuse aims to be a low key, unstuffy event. Held in the Studio Bar of Brighton's Komedia, the venue has a relaxed cabaret feel, and between readings people have the chance to chat and drink to a backdrop of great music.

23 October 2008

Chilling Tales of Supernature

Short Fuse's Halloween Spectacular takes place on Thursday 23 October 23 at the Studio Bar, Komedia, Brighton.

Tickets £4 on the door.

Short Fuse is looking for truly scary stories. Think Henry James' 'The Turn of the Screw' (or the film 'The Others' if you haven't the time to read it) - ie not blood and guts unless these add to the atmosphere of unease and growing dread.

Please email all stories before 10 October for performance on the 23rd. Include a brief biography and contact details.

Max 3,000 words, save file with your name rather than the story title, and send as a Word attachment to shortfusestories@yahoo.co.uk
